For several years, I worked as a consultant in developing curriculum for use in FAMILY SCIENCE programs and presenting workshops to educators interested in using the materials. Subsequently, I joined Extended Studies at Portland State University as Director of an informal education program, Northwest EQUALS. The work at that time aimed to increase science learning for students from a diversity of backgrounds through after-school events and other activities. In addition to overall management, I continued work in developing and writing curriculum, evaluating its effectiveness in FAMILY SCIENCE programs, participating in teacher training for those using the materials, and writing grants to support the program. Final publication of the curriculum for FAMLY SCIENCE took place after I had moved into another capacity.
