In this article, I give an overview of the honey bee colony, the activities that keep the colony going, resources that the bees use, produce, and provide (many of which we use, too), major pest and disease issues, and how efforts to manage honey bees have changed and continue to change over time.
Be warned, however! Changes were made by journal staff prior to printing, which resulted in the printed version stating that honey bees feed on firewood rather than fireweed, that drones are “mostly male,” and so forth. Editors are human, too, though I still wish I had been allowed to review changes before they went to press.
