Pelletization by False Crane Fly Larvae Research

Pelletization by False Crane Fly Larvae Research

  • Pelletization by False Crane Fly Larvae Research

For this research project, I did field assessments and laboratory studies of an immature false crane fly’s feeding capacity and food preferences. In the aquatic world of this insect, it’s small “particles” in and large “particles” out. The large “particles” the false crane fly larvae produced remained intact under laboratory conditions, but not so under field conditions.

The research is published as:

Title: Pelletization of sediment by the deposit-feeding invertebrate, Ptychoptera townesi (Diptera: Ptychopteridae)
