In this article, I reviewed current practices involved in mitigating losses that have occurred in wetland ecosystems to provide an overview for educators. The work includes our definitions of wetland, requirements and recommendations for mitigation, a framework for developing an ecological perspective and context for evaluating impacts, and suggestions for study projects in biological and environmental education. The writing is based in part on findings from my field field investigations and institutional research.
